Martial Arts Training at SBG Sparks

Straight Blast Gym’s Teen’s martial arts curriculum combines the discipline of martial arts training with personal development and monthly Life Skills teaching.

These classes are all about growing stronger, healthier, happier teens. Teens of varying ages and abilities at SBG become independent thinkers and compassionate leaders while learning to navigate all of life’s challenges.

Our Teens MArtial Arts Program

Our Teen Classes are the next step up from our classes for 5-9 year olds and 9-12 year olds, and are open to 13-16 year olds of all experience levels. Teens 16+ can graduate from our Teens Martial Arts program to our Adults programs to train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)Kickboxing, or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

There is a vast array of different martial arts but this can be broadly split into 2 distinct categories: Striking and Grappling. For striking we teach Kickboxing, and for grappling we teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). This is the only age group in our kids program that we offer Kickboxing. The 2 earlier groups are exclusively BJJ.

Our teens develop a well-rounded ability to handle themselves in all self-defense scenarios through their training. This is furthered by our instruction coming from law enforcement veterans with decades of experience in the field.

The Teen Life Skills homework takes the discipline and respect from their martial arts training and builds those skills into a teen’s life at school and in the home. In addition to their martial arts training, they will be tasked to complete the life skills work in a way that is conducive to their age level.

These classes will teach your teens:

  • How to be confident, assertive, and bully-proof
  • How to set goals and follow through with them
  • How to approach obstacles with a positive attitude and a growth mindset
  • Practical self-defense skills that can be applied to real life situations
  • How to make physical activity a lifestyle, through a fun, consistent, year-round athletics program

don't worry about the gear

All you’ll need to start is something comfortable to wear (shorts, yoga pants, t-shirt) and maybe a water bottle.

If you then decide a few sessions in that this is for you, we have an in-house shop for anything else you might need.

Besides that, make sure to remove all jewelry before training to prevent any injuries, and to uphold reasonable levels of personal hygiene (bathing, brushing teeth, trimming nails).
