Jiu Jitsu Training at SBG Sparks
Straight Blast Gym’s Kids’ Jiu Jitsu curriculum combines the discipline of martial arts training with personal development and monthly Life Skills teaching.
These classes are all about growing stronger, healthier, happier teens. Kids of varying ages and abilities at SBG become independent thinkers and compassionate leaders while learning to navigate all of life’s challenges.
Our Kids 5-9 Jiu Jitsu Program
Our Kids 5-9 Classes are the first step in our Growing Gorillas program and are open to 5-9 year olds of all experience levels. Kids 9+ can graduate to our Kids 9-12 program.
Kids in this group will be learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), which helps to develop a well-rounded ability to handle themselves in stressful situations and self-defense scenarios by building self-confidence and ablility to remain calm under pressure.
The Growing Gorillas Life Skills homework takes the discipline and respect from their martial arts training and builds those skills into a kid’s life at school and in the home. In addition to their BJJ training, they will be tasked to complete the life skills work in a way that is conducive to their age level.
These classes will teach your kids:
- How to be confident, assertive, and bully-proof
- How to set goals and follow through with them
- How to approach obstacles with a positive attitude and a growth mindset
- Practical self-defense skills that can be applied to real life situations
- How to make physical activity a lifestyle, through a fun, consistent, year-round athletics program
don't worry about the gear
All you’ll need to start is something comfortable to wear (shorts, yoga pants, t-shirt) and maybe a water bottle.
If you then decide a few sessions in that this is for you, we have an in-house shop for anything else you might need.
Besides that, make sure to remove all jewelry before training to prevent any injuries, and to uphold reasonable levels of personal hygiene (bathing, brushing teeth, trimming nails).
